Tax multipliers by canton

All 26 cantons with the complete tax-multiplier table of their municipalities – ranking, median and year-on-year change.

Where the numbers come from

Every fee comes from an official source – the cantonal tax offices, federal agencies, or your municipality’s own fee regulations. We collect it, check it against the original document, and cite the source on every value.

Find the sources

We search federal, cantonal and municipal publications for the tariffs and regulations currently in force.

Extract the values

Individual price components are read out of regulations, tables and PDFs as structured data.

Publish once reviewed

Every value is checked against the original document and published with its source and effective date.

Frequently asked questions

What the tax multiplier is, why the neighbouring municipality can be cheaper, and where our figures come from.

What is the Swiss tax multiplier (Steuerfuss)?
The tax multiplier is the percentage by which your municipality multiplies the simple cantonal tax. A multiplier of 119 % means you pay 119 percent of the cantonally defined base amount to the municipality. Canton, municipality and parish each set a multiplier of their own. The tax multiplier explained
How do I compare the taxes of two municipalities?
Compare the municipal tax multipliers of both places for the same tax year. Within a canton the figures are directly comparable, because every municipality builds on the same simple cantonal tax. Across cantonal borders the calculation bases differ, so the cantonal and church multipliers belong in the comparison too. Browse all municipalities
Which municipality has the lowest tax multiplier?
It changes every year, and the lowest figures are almost always in the cantons of Zug, Schwyz, Nidwalden and Appenzell Innerrhoden. Every canton page carries the complete ranking of its municipalities, from the lowest to the highest burden in the current fee year. Compare on the map
What is a health-insurance premium region?
The Federal Office of Public Health divides every canton into up to three premium regions. Your municipality of residence decides which region you fall into – and with it how high your health-insurance premium is. Between two neighbouring municipalities that can be several hundred francs a year.
Why do waste fees differ so much?
Every municipality sets its own waste fees, usually as a combination of an annual base fee and a charge per rubbish bag. Because both parts are chosen freely and some municipalities skip the base fee entirely, the annual cost for a household varies widely. Waste fees compared
Where does the data come from and how current is it?
Tax multipliers come from the Federal Tax Administration, premium regions from the Federal Office of Public Health, electricity prices from ElCom via metatarif.ch. The remaining fees we extract from the municipalities' own regulations. Every figure states the fee year it belongs to and the source it rests on.
